My Story
I grew up playing sports as a child, and fell in love with them.
Sports molded my value of the importance of self care to preform
at your best abilities. I carry these values with me throughout my
personal and professional life, and help my clients to find these
traits within themselves.
My Approach
I have seen first hand how stress, anxiety, depression, school, family
struggles, jobs, death and more can derail a person's life. I have professionally worked with clients facing all of these battles and more. My approach is complete empathy and unconditional positive regard. I approach each client uniquely, because everyone's story is unique. As your therapist, we will work together as a team to come up with a plan that works best for your individual needs and goals. I am eclectic at incorporating different schools of therapy to each client. My usual style of therapy typically followings CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). I also incorporate Solutions Focused Therapy, and am trained in EMDR: an effective therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Teenagers and young adults are my forte, but I see anyone middle school aged and above. I have been hired by and worked for several different schools to counsel high-school and college aged students. The transition from school to adulthood can be overwhelming for many students. My training aims to help this age group gain the skills necessary to navigate through this difficult transition period of life. I also work with many adults who are overwhelmed and who struggle with balancing families, jobs, relationships, and finances. I work with all genders, races, cultures, sexual orientations, religious and spiritual populations. I have specific training that focuses with the LGBTQIA+ community.
Educational Background
I have been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for over 20 years. I obtained degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Indiana University Bloomington. I then obtained my Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Louisville.
